Biography: Don Haddock (aka: "Matt Slagg and the Tramp Iron Railroad")......
Don Haddock, The Leader and Vocalist for the Tramp Iron Road has been playing and writing songs since he was 15 years old. Originally from San Diego, Ca., he grew up playing Rock and Roll in a 3 piece power group. He took a break from music to try and make a career as a professional baseball player. By the age of 28 he knew he had gone as far as he could with baseball and got back into writing and playing music again. He joined a Bluegrass band as a rhythm guitar player and vocalist and performed throughout San Diego County for about 5 years. He later moved to Orange County for a job and to raise a family. It was here he started playing and writing Country Music and eventually started a band called "Free Reign". Free Reign played all the Honky Tonks and local bars in Southern California for about 8 years. The band was nominated for country band of the year, and Don Haddock was individually nominated for "songwriter of the year". The "Free Reign" band played Top 40 Country Dance Music throughout the 90's.
Don Haddock's original songs are now being performed by the Band " The Tramp Iron Railroad". This is a project formed in June 2012, and exclusively performs the original music written by Don Haddock. The Band went into the Magic Muse Studio and Produced their 1st Album "Country Soul" which is now available on iTunes, Amazon.com and at the at the Reverb Store.
Early in 2015, the band went back into the studio to record their 2nd album entitled "IN THE WIND" by the TRAMP IRON RAILROAD. This time they recorded at Vulcanic Studioz in Costa Mesa, Ca.
This album is by far the best work to date of the original music of Don Haddock. On this album is also the first time Don has worked with Co- writers Steve Owen, Jeff Thorsnes, and Larry Jones. This Studio album also includes the addition of Jeremy Long on pedal Steel and Organ, and Eric Brenton on Fiddle and Mandolin, as well as Band Regulars Steve Denison on Lead Guitar, Keyboard and Vocals, Tim McRaney on Bass Guitar, and Garth Jacobs on Drums. The new CD MP3 is available now on ITunes and Amazon.
After all this success, Double tragedies Struck the members of the Tramp Iron Railroad. In June 2016, our drummer and youngest member of the Band Garth Jacobs was hospitalized due to complications from a broken hip and fractured pelvis and passed away unexpectedly in the hospital from a blood clot and stroke. Around the same time, Don Haddock took a bad fall and badly broke his shoulder again and tore his rotator Cuff and other ligaments. These 2 tragedies and other family obligations put the band on hold for almost the next 2 years.
But during this time some magic happened... Though layed up and unable to play guitar due to the shoulder rehab etc., to keep his sanity and his finger on the music, Don Haddock decided to work long distance with Songwriter and best friend Steve Owen from Alabama and other songwriters he met in California to to develop a 12 song All Original album of Country Song Collaborations to be Presented by the Tramp Iron Railroad Band and completely produced, recorded and mastered by the great Bob McGilpin from Nashville. Most all Instruments were played and recorded in Nashville by Bob McGilpin and his Studio musicians. Don Haddock Recorded his Lead Vocals at the Vulcanic Studioz in Costa Mesa,Ca. Everything was then put together in Nashville and will be CD Ready and Released Sometime in 2019.. This project was a labor of Love and Pain and every song was completed without any of the contributors from the States of Alabama, California and Tennessee ever being in the same room or studio at the same time... This miracle of technology is a beautiful tribute to the spirit of Indie Country Music and Don Haddock's refusal to give up. I hope you all will support this creation and buy as copy for yourself when it comes out Later in 2019.
All together Don Haddock has recorded a blend of Country Americana that reflects his roots in Country, Bluegrass and Rock while remaining a consummate Songwriter. Having gained some local recognition playing private parties and local events for Charities and fundraising, the Tramp Iron Railroad is looking to get back together in the studio for a 4th Album of Original Songs written by Don Haddock, and hopefully branch out from the Studio in 2019 to playing Live dates throughout Orange County.. So Keep an eye out for notifications throughout the year!
